Salt Creek is a dead-end trail on the southwest side of Mt Adams that follows Cascade Creek. The trail used to go up to Looking Glass Lake, but now ends after only a few miles. It is easy to follow a little ways longer to the confluence of Cascade and Salt Creeks. My first hike here was in early November, 2007. I was going to camp near the end of it, but hunting season was starting and the area was crowded, so I did it as a day hike again. I plan to try and find the old route up to Looking Glass Lake next year.
The official end of the trail.
This as-yet unoccupied tent is for hunters who have not yet arrived. The elk hunting season started the next morning. A long-time hunter told me that this area, a few hundreds yards from the Salt/Cascade confluence, is called Spike Camp.
