The weather really did change the next day. 30 miles out of Coldfoot, you pass Mt. Sukakpak, the most prominent feature of the whole drive. We had hoped to dayhike to its summit, but the weather didn't cooperate.

This is how it looked on the way back south a few days later, when we didn't have time for the climb

Instead of trying to go directly up, we ended up hiking on a side gravel bar of the Koyukuk River Middle Fork for a ways,

and part way up the ridge, for some of my best tundra shots

Then it was up the road on the way to Atigun Pass, where it was mostly fogged in
