El Mirador is a huge Mayan ruin near the Mexican border, well north of Tikal. But unlike Tikal, it is neither restored nor easy to get to. It took two days of hard trekking in the mud to get there.

The small village where the hike started.
La Florida was a small ruin on the way.
This hill is actually a manmade pyramid, covered with soil after many centuries.
In fact there are no mountains in the region. I was told that every bump on the horizon was a pyramid, and vast majority of which have never been visited, let alone restored, as has Tikal.
I picked up a rash called scabies on the trip.
