Headed up here for an early-season trip. I expected to run into snow at some point, and I did, at the lower meadow. The hike is almost completely burned from the Cascade and Cougar Creek fires in recent years. No shade and hot.

First, the flowers.

These were growing between snow drifts in the meadow

The snow started quite suddenly when I reached the end of the burn and green trees, and then I got to the lowest Gotchen Meadow

But I found a melted spot to pitch camp

Larger view of my oasis in the snow

That afternoon I snowshoed up a mile to the Round the Mountain Trail

At one point I got cold feet ;)
