It was an 11 mile up-and-down hike from Image Lake to Buck Creek Pass.

After retracing my steps along Miner's Ridge, you descend 1000 feet to Miner's Creek

It's then 1700 feet up to the crest of Middle Ridge, mostly in the forest, but sometimes in the open

Then you drop 1000 to Small Creek. This is the only creek I forded in the hike

Then it's 700 feet up to Buck Creek Pass. The camping area on the pass is an idyllic spot

The were more unshy deer in the area. One of them, probably this one, pulled my shirt down that was hanging to dry and licked all the salt off of it, replacing it with deer spit

I did the short but really steep hike up to neighboring Flower Dome

Approaching sunset

The hike out the next day had some dramatic views

Lower down the trail crossed some avalanche chutes

The hike out was 10 miles of gradual descent in a building heat wave to the waiting car - with drinks in the cooler still cold!
